Walkabout

As many of you know, we were inspired to create Cancer Gets LOST because of my dear friend Jackie, who lost her courageous battle against brain cancer in August of last year. We are continuing to honor her fight and spirit, and I will be participating in the Bay Area Brain Tumor Walk in May along with Jackie’s family and friends.

We realize that we asked for donations to her cause (the National Brain Tumor Society) last year, but we feel that it is our duty and honor to continue fundraising for Jackie’s charity of choice. And we are thrilled to be able to offer a bit of an incentive to encourage contributions!

If you make a donation in any amount directly to Jackie’s Brain Tumor Walk (Team Toast) by May 4, we will send you a Cancer Gets LOST wristband AND a 14″x20″Jacob Loves You poster (see above).

If you make a donation of $40 or more, we will send you a limited edition (only 23 of each were created), numbered Jason Shorr 13″x19″ LOST poster. Your choice would be as follows: “It Worked” (featuring Juliet and Sawyer, above) or “I Remember” (featuring Jin and Sun, below). We have 13 and 15 posters of each left, respectively.

If you are interested in making a donation in any amount to Jackie’s Brain Tumor Walk team, simply forward me your email receipt (jo at jopinionated dot com) by May 4 with a shipping address for the poster. We really appreciate your consideration. Namaste!

– Jo

Help Us Help Alex (Not Rousseau)!

As you know, earlier this year we raised over $60,000 for the National Brain Tumor Society through an online auction, live webcast and fundraising party – all of which was a direct result of your overwhelming and very appreciated generosity!

For those who are interested in making another (or first time) charitable, tax-deductible contribution before the end of 2012, we would like to offer you an incentive! Among the many causes that Cancer Gets LOST supports, we are a huge fan of Alex’s Lemonade Stand – an organization dedicated to childhood cancer research. If you make a donation to their foundation in any amount by December 31, 2012 and email us your receipt, you will be automatically entered to receive one of the following items in return:

  • 1 limited edition “Jacob Loves You” 14×20 mini-poster, created by Cancer Gets LOST co-founder Jared W! [50 available] – OR –

  • 1 LOST S6 DVD set, donated & signed by Damon Lindelof [10 available]

PLUS: everyone who makes a donation to Alex’s Lemonade Stand in any amount will receive one of our limited edition CGL wristbands!

To recap:

1) Make a donation directly to Alex’s Lemonade Stand via this link by December 31, 2012

2) Email your receipt to jo [at] jopinionated [dot] com

3) PLEASE note in your email which item you’d like the most, in order (i.e. 1 – DVD, 2 – poster). We will try to accommodate your preferences but supplies are very limited and names will be drawn randomly!

4) Include your shipping address. Apologies, but this giveaway is open ONLY within the U.S.; our personal shipping funds are depleted from the auction, and we can only afford to ship within the U.S. IF you live outside of the U.S., make a donation and are willing to pay for shipping via Paypal, we can make an exception.

Thank you in advance for your consideration!

Namaste,

Jo

NBTS Donations via Cancer Gets LOST

As most of you are aware, we selected the National Brain Tumor Society to receive 100% of the proceeds from the Cancer Gets LOST auction, webcast and fundraising event in honor of Jo’s good friend Jackie, who passed away on August 3 after fighting bravely against brain tumors and cancer for four years.

We know that many of you never watched LOST and are not bidding on items in our charity auction, but you have expressed in interest in contributing to the cause. For those of you who would like to make a donation directly to the National Brain Tumor Society from now through August 29, 2012, we kindly ask that you do so via the following link, so that your contributions count toward our overall fundraising total!

We appreciate your support on all levels – and to encourage you to consider making a financial donation during our live webcast this Saturday (8/25), we are going to sweeten the pot…

If you 1) make a donation directly to the NBTS via the link above on during our live webcast Saturday, August 25 between 12pm PT – 4pm PT and 2) email your receipts to receipts[at]cancergetslost[dot]org, you will receive one of the following in return [while supplies last]:

  • $25 donation to NBTS: limited edition Cancer Gets LOST wristband (first 100 people)

  • $50 donation to NBTS: limited edition “Jacob Loves You” 14×20 mini-poster, created by Cancer Get LOST co-founder Jared W. (first 50 people; a limited number of these will also be available at the Fundraising Event on Saturday night for a cash donation of $30)

  • $100 donation to NBTS: LOST S6 DVD, donated & signed by Damon Lindelof (first 30 people)

* If you make a contribution of $100 or more, you may choose 1 of the above items. If you don’t want any of the items, you don’t have to email us your receipt (but thank you, nonetheless!).

This offer only applies on Saturday, August 25 from noon – 4pm PT and ONLY if you email your receipts to receipts[at]cancergetslost[dot]org. We will organize emailed receipts by time received, and notify you if you will be receiving one of the above items (please give us a few days to sort through, organize and notify). Of course we will be grateful for donations made directly to the NBTS in any amount on any day through August 29 as well!

Namaste,

Jared & Jo

Orientation: CGL Charity Webcast & Fundraising Event This Saturday (8/25)!

SATURDAY, AUGUST 25

Noon-4pm PST: live streaming charity webcast w/LOST alum
7pm-11pm PST: fundraising event at Monk Space in LA

WEBCAST

Tune in this Saturday from noon-4pm PST as we host a live webcast with LOST alum (both cast and creative team)! Although the webcast will be streaming live online for everyone around the world to watch, the event itself is closed to the public.

During the webcast, we will be reminiscing and catching up with LOST actors and editors/producers/writers, as well as debuting a series of original videos. We will also be promoting items in our charity auction, as well as reminding viewers that they can make donations directly to the National Brain Tumor Society through specific links (which will be released tomorrow) that will count toward our overall fundraising efforts! As you know, 100% of the proceeds raised during the auction, webcast and fundraising event will benefit the NBTS. Stay tuned for details about the limited edition items we will be giving out in exchange for charitable contributions to the NBTS!

* You don’t need to be a LOST fan to enjoy the broadcast; the guests will be talking about their new films and television shows, and it is very likely that a variety of pop culture topics will be discussed!

Bookmark the official Cancer Gets LOST live webcast stream in advance! {In the rare event of Livestream network outage, here is our backup webcast URL!}

FUNDRAISING EVENT

On Saturday at Monk Space in Los Angeles from 7pm-11pm PST, we are hosting an official Cancer Gets LOST fundraising event for the NBTS! We will be featuring LOST trivia, giveaways and more, and items from our charity auction will be on display.

You don’t have to actually be a LOST fan to attend; the event is open to everyone, and will be a fantastic social gathering of fellow pop culture nerds – all for a great cause!

ADMISSION/RAFFLE TICKETS

No advance tickets are necessary, and admission at the door will be $20 ($10 for guests under 21). 100% of all money collected will be donated to the National Brain Tumor Society! We will have separate wristbands for guests over and under 21, so please bring your ID. You may want to bring extra cash, as we have many LOST and other TV related goodies to give away via $2 raffle tickets (proceeds benefit the NBTS), there will be 2 limited edition posters for sale (also to benefit the NBTS), and there will be a food truck outside of the venue (Philly Please)!

ADDRESS & PARKING

Due to space limitations and fire codes that we must observe at the venue, only 200 guests will be allowed inside at any time. Please keep this in mind when planning your travel and evening! There is ample street parking along Western Avenue, and you will see a Cancer Gets LOST banner hanging on the outside of Monk Space. Please read street signs carefully, as the venue itself is on a primarily residential street.

Monk Space: 4414 West 2nd Street, Los Angeles CA 90004

AUTOGRAPHS

** Because our #1 goal is to raise money for the cause through the charity auction, we kindly ask that you please do NOT bring items to the event to get signed by special guests – as doing so would essentially be countering our fundraising efforts via the auction. Thank you in advance for your consideration!

RSVP

Please RSVP to the event on our Facebook event page, or email party[at]cancergetslost[dot]org.

SPECIAL GUESTS

Special guests will be invited, but we cannot guarantee appearances ahead of time. However, they will be announced here as they are confirmed. We are thrilled to announce that actress Andrea Gabriel will be joining us! As you know, she played Nadia on LOST for 6 seasons. She also just filmed an arc on Gossip Girl and will be appearing in Twilight: Breaking Dawn – Part 2.

Namaste,

Jared & Jo

…And Found

As we are finalizing dates and details for the big event and auction later this year, we are continuing to collect one-of-a-kind items to auction off! The generosity of former LOST cast and creative – as well as the fans – has been amazing, and we so appreciate all of the donations. 100% of the profits from our efforts will benefit the National Brain Tumor Society.

Our friend Rob has graciously contributed an authentic prop to the cause – one that he purchased at the Official LOST Auction in 2010. Rob donated one of Jin’s single handcuffs, which Daniel Dae Kim wore for most of Season 1. He describes this handcuff, as well as the entire lot, on his blog. We are thrilled to add this to the collection, and hope to somehow arrange for Daniel Dae Kim to autograph it before the auction. Thank you, Rob!

In addition, we stopped by the Once Upon a Time offices to meet with former LOST executive producers/writers Adam Horowitz and Eddy Kitsis, who are now the show runners and executive producers of Once. They took the time out of their very busy season finale writing schedules to sign our LOST Encyclopedias and other items for the auction, and threw in an autographed Once Upon a Time pilot script – one of only a few in existence with foul language included! We are very grateful for their contributions.

As a reminder, I am giving away LOST and ALCATRAZ swag as an incentive to donate to my friend Jackie’s Brain Tumor Walk next month. This will be open until April 30, and I thank you in advance for your consideration.

-Jo

Fight On: My Inspiration

Fight on. That is the motto my dear friend Jackie uses to end every medical update that she sends out to family and friends. It represents not only her beloved alma mater USC, but also her fight against an evil brain tumor named Turk.

For me, Jackie is the impetus and inspiration for Cancer Gets LOST, and the reason why I teamed up with Jared to raise money for the National Brain Tumor Society. We will be hosting an online auction later this year (possibly coinciding with a live event in Los Angeles), with rare and autographed memorabilia from LOST and other shows – and 100% of the profits will benefit both charities.

While Jared and I are still in the planning stages of this event, I will be participating in the annual NBTS Walk in San Francisco this May, on Jackie’s “Team Toast” (as in: Turk is Toast). Her tumor is now Stage 4, and now – more than ever before – it is tremendously important to raise awareness about the National Brain Tumor Society, to seek out funding for their further research.

To encourage donations, I am giving away several items from our favorite shows. If you make a contribution of $10 or more to either Jackie’s NBTS Walk page or my NBTS Walk page and email me the receipt, you will be automatically entered to win one of the following items. The more you donate, the more chances you have to win (i.e $10 = 1 entry, $50 = 5 entries). This giveaway will be open until April 30.

  • LOST Thought: Thinking Leaders Discuss LOST (brand new book compilation – I contributed 2 chapters; 2 copies are up for grabs)
  • LOST Bobbleheads: Claire, Desmond, Hurley, Jack and Sawyer
  • Bif Bang Pow! LOST action figure: Hurley (AUTOGRAPHED by Jorge Garcia)
  • Weezer “Hurley” CD (AUTOGRAPHED by Jorge Garcia)
  • ALCATRAZ mug, exclusive from the premiere on Alcatraz in January
  • ALCATRAZ poster (AUTOGRAPHED by Jorge Garcia, Sarah Jones, Jonny Coyne, Parminder Nagra and Robert Forster)

We are very appreciative for your interest and contributions, and will keep you posted with details about the auction and event.

Fight on! And thank you.

-Jo

The uber-talented drMikey has donated some very awesome paintings to be auctioned off for our cause! The lot includes the original painting for “Untouched”, which features Desmond, as well as a number of pieces from the Harmonic Resonance Project!

If you haven’t already done so, show him some love on Facebook or Twitter. You can also view and purchase some of his amazing work on his website.

drMikey, we thank you for your incredibly generous donation!

The End…of the Year Charity Contribution Suggestion

Many people tend to support charitable organizations at the end of each year by writing a check.  In that spirit, we would like to encourage you to consider making a last-minute 2011 donation to either the National Brain Tumor Society or the American Cancer Society.

As an incentive to contribute – anyone who makes a donation in any amount to either charity above by 12/31/11 will automatically be entered to win one of the following LOST-related items. If you’d like to be in the running for this giveaway, simply email us your receipt to: jared [at] cancergetslost [dot] org (and yes, we will ship to any location around the globe)!
