CGL 2023 Online Charity Auction Details!

The 2023 Cancer Gets Lost Online Charity Auction is NOW OPEN! It closes TODAY (April 23) at 4:15pm CT! The auction closes ONE ITEM AT A TIME, numerically from 1-130. IF there is a bid in the final minute of an item, bidding will be extended up to 4 times, for 2 minutes at a time!

After the auction ends, if you’ve won an item, you will receive an invoice from CGL within 48 hours that includes detailed instructions and your shipping cost! Please do NOT attempt to make payment before you receive your CGL invoice. All post-auction instructions are here, if you’d like to prepare in advance!

This auction features rare and signed items from a wide variety of your favorite TV shows, films, music and more. 100% of the proceeds from this auction will be donated to the Ovarian Cancer Research Alliance, an absolutely essential organization that is leading the fight against ovarian cancer from all fronts (in the lab, on Capitol Hill and supporting women & their families).

**PLEASE NOTE: We have reached our maximum number of bidders with shipping addresses outside of the U.S. and will not be approving any new international registrations. We simply do not have the bandwidth to accommodate additional global bidders.

Registration for the Cancer Gets Lost 2023 Online Charity Auction is open until 4:15pm CT today (for those with U.S. shipping addresses) on our external auction hosting site; HERE is the link (to both Registration and the Auction itself)! In the upper right corner of the site, CLICK on “Get Approved to Bid” in the light blue box! If you have a pre-existing iCollector account that you’d like to use, click on “Sign In” on the right side of the page at top.

After you register to bid in our charity auction, you’ll see this message: Auction Approval Pending. We appreciate your patience because we must approve each bidder individually. This process is necessary but quick; all approvals will occur within hours of your registration!

**IMPORTANT: Please register to bid using an email account that you actually check/use! It has become a challenging issue for us after charity auctions when we are unable to contact a few winning bidders because they never check the email they registered with again!

Please only place bids in our charity auction if you genuinely intend to pay for items you win and have the means to do so. Sadly, we’ve experienced fraud in almost every CGL auction - which is very unfortunate because the funds promised by winning bidders are then not donated to the cancer charity we’ve designated to receive all proceeds. If you win an item in our auction but fail to pay for it after, you will no longer be allowed to register for and participate in any CGL charity auctions.

* We ask that EVERYONE please read all Transparency, Terms & Conditions and Shipping Restriction details below, BEFORE you register for our charity auction.

Providing a method of payment when you register for the CGL auction

When you register for the CGL charity auction on our external host site iCollector, it WILL ask you for a credit card. HOWEVER! It is for security purposes only and CGL will NOT charge anything to your card. This is because post-auction payments are ONLY possible via the CGL PayPal account (which you can only access via our website).

iCollector is owned by Live Auction, which is based in Canada. So, this is the message you’ll see when you register:

“By clicking ‘Confirm Your Information’ below, you agree to allow your credit card to be authorized for $1.00 CAD by ‘LIVE AUCTION GROUP PORT COQUITLA BC’ to ensure your card is valid. This amount will be held for 7 to 30 days before being automatically released.”

What is a Fiscal Sponsor and what does it have to do with this auction?

CGL is a 501c (3)-sponsored organization. We operate under the umbrella of our Fiscal Sponsor FJC, A Foundation of Philanthropic Funds. They are a 501c (3) public charity that provides management of charitable giving for small organizations like ours. FJC oversees all of the financials for Cancer Gets Lost, they collect tax-deductible contributions made via CGL, and then disburse final auction proceed checks to designated cancer charities on our behalf.  FJC has earned a top 4-star rating on Charity Navigator!

If you wind up winning any items in our online charity auction, you will be provided with detailed instructions immediately after the auction ends about where and how to make your payment to CGL’s PayPal account (managed exclusively by FJC). After all auction payments are made and the logistics are settled, CGL then instructs FJC to donate 100% of our auction proceeds to our charity of choice. In this case, it will be the Ovarian Cancer Research Alliance!

Regarding tax receipts from FJC: if the difference between the your winning bid and the starting bid of the auction item is over $250, you will receive a tax receipt. For example, if your winning bid is $300 and the starting price was $10, you’ll receive a tax receipt for $290. Please note: FJC mails out tax receipts to the mailing address you provide us with, usually 2-3 months after the auction ends.

CGL Charity Auction Transparency: NO Buyer’s Premium Fee!

Most auctions of this magnitude require winning bidders to pay a Buyer’s Premium fee per item, in addition to the winning bid and shipping cost. CGL has decided to cover all Buyers Premium Fees (3% per item), so that you don’t have to! Winning bidders will now only have to pay for items won + shipping. This allows CGL to donate 100% of ALL auction proceeds to the Ovarian Cancer Research Alliance!

SHIPPING NOTES & RESTRICTIONS

International friends:

  • The winning bidder is entirely responsible for ANY/ALL Customs and Import Duties that may apply once our auction shipment arrives in your country. Please check your own country fees and duties before registering, and decide for yourself if you are willing and able to cover the additional fees/duties!

  • If you have a friend, family or office with a U.S. shipping address that you can use if you win an item in our charity auction - please just let us know when you register! We are unable to view the shipping address you enter when you register, which is why we are asking you to contact us first.

Cancer Gets Lost has to adhere to international shipping restrictions. And there are countries that require prohibitively high customs fees when items arrive, so we try to avoid shipping there. This also includes locations currently affected by war or widespread disasters (earthquakes, floods, etc.). Therefore, please check the list of countries below that we are unable to ship to before registering to bid in our charity auction. Thank you.

Afghanistan, Algeria, Angola, Antigua & Barbuda, Argentina, Belarus, Bosnia & Herzegovina, Brazil, Burundi, China, Comoros, Congo, Cote D’ivoire, Cuba, Egypt, El Salvador, Falkland Islands, Gambia, Gibraltar, Greenland, India, Iran, Iraq, Jordan, Korea (North and South), Kuwait, Lao, Liberia, Madagascar, Moldova, Mongolia, Montenegro, Montserrat, Myanmar, Niger, Nigeria, Pitcairn, Reunion, Russia, Saint Helena, Saint Pierre & Miquelon, Saudi Arabia, Serbia, Sierra Leone, Somalia, South Georgia, Sri Lanka, Sudan, Suriname, Syria, Tanzania, Togo, Turkey, Tuvalu, Uganda, Ukraine, Uzbekistan, Wallis & Futuna, Yemen.

** Shipping note: because one person alone is handling the packaging & shipping, shipment of all CGL auction packages will take place 4-6 weeks after the auction ends. In addition, consumers around the globe are experiencing longer-than-usual shipping delays due to many world events out of our control, so we really appreciate your patience!

SHIPPING TRANSPARENCY NOTE

As you know, almost all of our CGL auction items are either rare or 1-of-a-kind. Some are absolutely irreplaceable. Because of ongoing global shipping issues, there is a greater risk that a package might get lost or damaged in transit (which is out of our control). If that happens to your auction item, we will have to reimburse you for your donation. Which means that CGL has to subtract that amount from the grand total we’re donating to the designated cancer charity. We try to avoid that if it all possible!

In addition, although we insure each auction package, if something happens to it – the carrier only reimburses us for a tiny portion of its value. If we were to insure auction packages with the actual Final Bidding Prices, there is no way y’all would pay for shipping. Prohibitively expensive is an understatement!

WE HAVE TO GIVE BACK!

After all winning bidder payments have been verified by our fiscal sponsor FJC: 100% of all auction proceeds from the 2023 Cancer Gets Lost Online Charity Auction will be donated to the cancer charity Ovarian Cancer Research Alliance! OCRA is an absolutely essential organization that is leading the fight against ovarian cancer from all fronts (in the lab, on Capitol Hill and supporting women & their families).

If you’re not interested in participating in our online charity auction but would like to kindly make a small donation to the OCRA – we appreciate the consideration! You can either donate via their site directly or via CGL, and we will then designate that 100% of your contribution will be included in our final post-auction donation to the OCRA.

CGL Transparency

Full disclosure: we fund Cancer Gets Lost ourselves, with our own money. There are two CGL Co-Founders (it has only ever been just the two of us running this organization), and neither of us have ever kept or earned any money raised in our charity auctions, nor do we plan to. CGL is a true labor of love!
